For 20 million dollars all because they put Velvet Revolver songs and Slash in Guitar Hero 3. Wow...wow.

Apparently, Axl only let them put Welcome To The Jungle in GH3 if Slash wasn't a playable character and there was no Velvet songs. All I can say is Axl Rose has some growing up to do.

I don't think Axl really has any reason to sue them for using VR songs, and especially not for Slash. He doesn't own any rights to any of it, so what makes him think he can SUE for their usage? Oh, I know; The all-mighty dollar.

While I dont agree with him in the slightest, I can see it through his mindset. If he truely doesnt want to be associated with Slash/VR, I can see him being upset, but 1) theres really no legality that would go his way in court. I dont think they did anything wrong, and it will do nothing more than make people hate him more.

There's a lot more to it than you're seeing in the news article.
When Axl Rose signed the rights in a contract with Activision (which he knew, Slash would be in the game, that wasn't the issue) it was PROMISED that Slash wouldn't be listed as CURRENT Guns N' Roses guitarist. Axl had an album coming out, he was trying to get a band together and have it understood to be Guns N' Roses, and to have Activision tell him to go fuck himself (Axl did interviews shortly after Chinese Democracy was released stating that this lawsuit would be occurring, this is relatively old news to me) is kind of messed. If you sign a contract, that STATES something will occur (in this case, that Slash would be listed as Former Guns N' Roses guitarist) and then go back on your word, and when confronted you say it's not your problem, you deserve to get sued.
As far as I'm concerned it's karma for the way Activision treated the Infinity Ward staff.
Of course, the press is only going to publish the part about him suing because he's 'bitter about Slash' or whatever they want, because they know that people will eat it up. "Oh there's Axl again, doing something crazy." Whatever, the press can go fuck themselves. 20 million is a lot but they breached a contract. It's alright for anyone else in the world to sue over breach of contract but not Axl, right? Great logic.
In May 2007, Milligan spoke with Young regarding Roses's concerns. Young again reassured Milligan that no Slash images or VR songs would be used in GH III or in connection with "Welcome to the Jungle." In a follow up confirmatory email, he wrote: "In light of our earlier conversation, this email serves to confirm that given the approval for "Welcome to the Jungle', we have no intention of using Velvet Revolver in Guitar Hero 3."
They had said that Slash wouldn't be used in GH III but all Axl had asked was that they refrain from putting him to the song as a 'current Guns N' Roses guitarist' He said that to sort of seal the deal. If you know anything about what they did to their Infinity Ward employees, you know that this man is NOTORIOUS for lies.
EDIT:
Also, he's not sueing because of the Velvet Revolver songs in the game. He's sueing because they associated Slash as the 'current Guns N' Roses guitarist' which he clearly isn't and hasn't been for ten years now. While they stated they wouldn't use VR because of wanting to get Jungle in the game, Axl didn't ask them to refrain from using VR or Slash, he just didn't want them associated with GN'R

When exactly does it say he's the current guitarist? I just remember performing as Slash or with him or something when playing Welcome to the Jungle. And it said the song was by Guns N' Roses.

During the credits of the game, and in the bonus videos. But still. I think it's wrong for people to just jump all over Axl (as always) because he's suing over breach of contract. People do that all the time, why is Axl an asshole because he does it? I don't understand the logic. Regardless, I know most people aren't a fan of Axl, and I'm in the minority. Is 20 million a lot to sue for? fuck yeah it is. It's a tad ridiculous, yes. It'll probably also delay any hope for a future album...

I feel the need to retort, so you don't get the wrong idea...
While Axl does own the rights to Guns N' Roses and the entire catalog... Slash should be allowed to be given for the song at the very least.

Verbal contracts as such very rarely hold up in court, and his request isn't something that would go over to well in any court either. I really dont remember it ever saying current GNR guitarist, and he was at one time a GNR guitarist, which Axl seems to want to disappear. No promos or advertising said that Slash was a current GNR guitarist, and if anything, it would have helped GNRs sales, not hurt them, if it did. The trailers simply said "starring Slash". Axl has no right at all to say that they cannot associate Slash with GNR, because he is part of their history. I think its selfish and childish on Axl's behalf.

I think it's stupid on Axl's part, I won't let my idolization for him blind me of that.

Especially considering the uber royalities bands get from games like GH and Rockband, and the boosted CD sales due to their popularity/dlc/inclusion in the game.
