Metal Gear Solid: HD CollectionMetal Gear Solid 2: Substance, Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker remastered in HD with 60fps. Release: US: November 08, 2011 Europe: February 03, 2012 Japan: November 23, 2011 yeah, I love Mega64 too...sue me. Metal Gear Solid is probably my favorite game series of all time. I'm more than excited that the HD Collection is coming out for the current gen because my Playstation 2 died and my PS3 isn't backwards compatible. Anyone else gonna pick this up?

Why isn't the first game included?

I'm not sure, they haven't really said a whole lot about why it's not being included. It's available on Playstation Network right now as it is, and I guess they couldn't add Twin Snakes because of all the Nintendo references within the game.

Definitely getting this. I played MSG on the PS1 and loved it, but never got any of the other games in the series. I now plan on getting this, completing it and then getting MGS4.

I'll eventually get the first one off the psn anyways. I used to have the original from the ps1 days but some jackass broke disc 1 when I let him borrow it

I never really played the MGS games as I'm more of an Xbox type of guy. Cool to see older games being brought back with better graphics though.

word of warning, you'll be completely lost story-wise if you havent played MGS1, so if its available on PSN i'd recommend playing it, because the series is extremely story-heavy. Its graphics may be shit now but it was revolutionary at the time, and very fun

I'll put it into perspective for you.
I have two friends who really wanted to play Metal Gear Solid knowing how much I've loved it. One of them played Metal Gear Solid 2 a little bit, none of the others. The other friend played none. They both wanted to start off on Metal Gear Solid 4 and I warned them that Metal Gear Solid is not a series you can jump into. One of my friends (the one who played 2) went through Metal Gear Solid (the PSX original) and being that he beat 2 he knew a bit. He didn't play 3 but he still got by, reading up on them a bit.
The other friend, who jumped right into 4...hated it because he didn't understand a lot of what was going on. They do a LITTLE explaining, and the game can work on it's own if you really want it to, but it's still not as good if you've never played the past games.
Metal Gear Solid requires you to play the past games, no way around it. Play Metal Gear Solid on PSN, get an original PSX version, buy Twin Snakes for GameCube (could play it on the Wii), or get it for PC.
