Whenever people discuss customer service, it's rarely positive. You generally hear about the situations you pray you can avoid, such as a cashier giving you a difficult time. Does anyone have any good stories, where everything went better than expected? I have one, that inspired this topic haha. I also, have a poor customer service experience. You can't have a good one, without a bad one. Sadly, the poor experiences are far more common than the good ones.
Tonight, my mother and I decided it was time to upgrade our phones. My mom's was getting old and shoddy, and my iPhone 3GS was approaching two and a half years old. My phone, with the new iOS Software, was beginning to show it's age. It would lag every so often.
We went to Best Buy, an American chain store for all things technology and electronics. There's a mobile phone center in this building. The two attendantes are already helping customers. One of them was doing his job properly. I could see him helping a girl, around my age, sign up for a plan with a brand new phone. The other person, was helping another girl my age. This girl was, admittedly, very attractive. However, you could tell just by looking at her that she was, "High Maintenance." Makeup, hair done, dressed up, in heels. I would've tapped it. The help desk attendant clearly wanted to as well. She had already been there for "fifteen minutes," according to the other person waiting in line with us. The gentlemen at the desk was working so hard to set up her G-Mail account, and not only that, but fix every problem she had. Yeah, that sounds like solid customer service, right? Her problems were so minor that he shouldn't have taken so long to fix. She asked, "How do I download Facebook?" and he downloaded the app, and showed her how to log in. The majority of the time, however, was spent setting up G-Mail. He took his time, to talk to her.
So finally, thirty minutes later I sat down with my parents in tow to discuss upgrading. The guy asks what I want, and I say "I wanna upgrade my iPhone, my mom wants to upgrade to an iPhone." And he starts looking at upgrade options. "We can't upgrade you past 16gb, because Best Buy's dont sell any higher." I currently have a 32gb. I told him, that I saw boxes in the glass case behind him and he said, "Those aren't for sale." So I just said, thanks for wasting my time then, and we left.
Then we went to the AT&T Store about 5 minutes away. The guy there, stand up salesmen. He ran through the options, got us a great deal (My mom got an iPhone 3GS for one cent!) and conversed with us the entire time. I talked basketball with him, he let me look at individual phones, and even hooked me up with a bumper for my phone. I told him about Best Buy, and he laughed. He knew that the guy was clearly trying to push 16gb iPhones because they aren't selling well. He went to so much trouble though, it was such a contrast in styles.
I dunno, I was just so disgusted that Best Buy could have such poor sales people that I felt it was necessary to post about it! Share some stories!
