Eminem – Recovery Review By CMC
Eminem is back with what is truly a masterpiece of an album. For anyone with torrents, I couldn’t recommend downloading the leak more if I tried, for those of you without, buy it when it comes out! The album is truly amazing, and really shows that Slim is back to his best. His first album, branching away from Dr Dre, with only two tracks, produced by him, and without a doubt one of his best yet, along with The Eminem Show and The Marshall Mathers LP. This is definitely an album with some songs that could bring in just casual fans, as well as hardcore Em fans.
1. Cold Wind Blows – 5:04
A great opening track for the album. With an uptempo beat, it is one of the songs that resembles that of the Relapse tracks. Certainly not the best on the album, but a good song to draw people in at the start.
2. Talkin’ 2 Myself (Feat. Kobe) – 5.00
Personally, one offavoriteite songs on the album. Em has brought in relatively unknown rapper Kobe for the chorus. The album truly holds one of the best versus on the album with the final verse. It really shows Slim is one of the best on the planet at what he does.
3. On Fire- 3:34
Another of the songs that seems like it could have been on the Relapse album. One of the weakest songs on the album in my opinion.
4: Won’t Back Down (Feat. Pink) – 4:26
With what seems like a strange choice in a featuring artist in Pink, it actually works very well. A very strong, uptempo beat, and some intense rhymes from Em in this song. A strong song on the album.
5: W.T.P (White Trash Party) – 3:58
One of the more comedic songs on the album. If you like the stuff off the Encore album, then you’ll probably end up liking this.
6: Going Through Changes – 4:59
Sampling Changes by Black Sabbath, this is more of a mellow song. Good verses, but if you’re like me, and not a fan of Changes, this song won’t do much for you.
7: Not Afraid – 4:08
The debut single off of the album and it is just that for a very good reason. The song tracks Slims road to recovery, and does just that in a great way. One of the best on the album, and really shows that he is back to his best.
8: Seduction – 4:35
Another in the Relapse style, but still a good song. It’s pretty much an excuse for Em to tell us just how good he is, and I believe every word of it.
9: No Love (Feat. Lil Wayne) – 5:00
At the moment, one of my twofavorites on the album. Lil Wayne starts the song off, only to have Em come in half way through, and completely blow him away, just like he did in Drop The World. The Thing is. Lil Wayne’s verse is still very good, but Eminem once again shows, he’s the best around.
10: Space Bound – 4:39
The first of two Dr Dre produced tracks on the album, and until I read it, I couldn’t tell. Dre seems to have really changed his style for this song. This is another that jumped out to me, as a breakout song with my first listen to the album.
11: Cinderella Man – 4:39
Another brilliant song, with a fast paced beat, and fantastic lyrics. One of the best on the album in my opinion.
12: 25 To Life – 4:02
One of the most meaningful songs on the album, talking about his “marriage” to hip-hop, and how he feels he’s never appreciated the way he should be, Em lets out his real feelings in this song. With one of the final lines “Fuck you Hip-Hop, I’m leaving you, my life sentence is served bitch!” I get the “Is Recovery the end of Slim?” feeling.
13: So Bad – 5:25
The second song produced by Dre, and it really is the vintage Doctor in this one. It echoes Relapse and Encore. If you’re a big Em fan, I’m sure you’ll enjoy the song, however I don’t think that that this one appeals to a casual audience.
14: Almost Famous – 4:53
Another intense song on the album, and one of my favourites. A fast paced beat and vicious lyrics from Em, as he lets everything go in this song.
15: Love The Way You Lie (Feat. Rihanna) – 4:23
About a broken relationship (Maybe Kim, who knows) but this is truly a masterpiece for Eminem. One of my favorite Em songs to date. Rihanna, really adds to the song in the chorus.
16: You’re Never Over – 5:06
A lyrical homage to his late best friend, Proof (Of D12). Slim shows how much he misses Proof, and how he contemplates “Joining him” (In Heaven) but a message from Proof, keeps him going. This is probably my favourite song on the album, with the line “Yeah I’ma do it to death” he contradicts the earlier statement, that he’s done, and as always leaves us wondering. Even if you don’t know much about their relationship, I still think many people can connect to it. A brilliant song.
17: Here We Go (Bonus Track) – 3:14)
A nice set off for what just may be Eminem’s best album yet. Another fast paced song really leaves me wanting more.
