Day One:
So, we're finally here. Plane ride was long as hell, but it didnt really tire me at all. Picked up the car, a Nissan Altima Hybrid and went to our hotel (with the important help of a GPS). Drive there was scary, and backwards, but I soon got used to it. Hostel is great, cool people so far, 2 other Aussies in our room. Went for a long walk down Hollywood blvd, saw Capitol Records building, Graumans, etc. etc. Cool place, but a few crazies. Also went for a random drive through LAs side suburbs, got some USA chocolate and a large McDonalds meal for under $5. Great place so far, looking forward to seeing what else it has to offer.
CMC told me to get a photo with Jimi Hendrix and Johnny Cash's star, but I think I found somebody more important, haha!
Day Two:
Pretty cheap day today, but very cool. Woke up and had our first USA cereal-mini choc chip cookies in milk. Yummy. Went for a long drive to Beverly Hills and walked around the rich area of LA, then headed to Downtown LA in the Broadway district, which was pretty damn cool. Tried Carl's Jr Burgers and they were phenomenal. Chicken Teriyaki burger, only $2.50 by itself. Brilliant. We also went for a walk down Sunset Boulevard, saw a cool venue called the Paladium, which has held such bands as Red Hot Chili Peppers, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, The Doors, etc. Went to Ameoba Music too, and it was freaking HUGE! Bought a brand new cd by The Veer Union for $1.98, whereas CDs in Australia are $10-$20. Finished the day off with a late night walk to McDonalds for a Triple Thickshake and a phone call to Dad for his birthday. Spent way under todays budget, and still managed to have a great time.
Day Three:
Another awesome day and still way under budget. Went for a great walk along long beach and got a little bit sunburnt. We then sat in a park and were approached by a friendly little squirril. Also went to filming locations for Dexter and got photos there, which was awesome. Now kicking back at the hostel waiting for Sean to come back, and there's a massive party here, band and all. Should be fun.
Outside Dexter's childhood home.
Outside Rita's house
View of Long Beach
Day Four:
Went to Downtown LA and explored it thoroughly today, wasnt too exciting, but a decent cheap day nonetheless. Also went for a nice walk up Hollywood hills with some cute local girls, got pretty close to Hollywood sign and a great view of LA. Going to go get food shortly.
Day Five:
We went to Universal Studios citiwalk today and it was pretty damn cool, parking cost a lot though. We also finally tried In N Out Burger and it was fantastic, though it highly increase our chances of a heart attack. We stopped at Galcos on the way home and got dome ridiculous flavours of soda, such as chocolate. On a walk, sone greasy old wog guy tried to pick a fight with me for no particular reason. He then threatened to hit us with a phone after we told him we were Spanish and Japanese. Oh well. Now just relaxing for the rest of the night now, resting our legs.
Day Six:
One tip to all, NEVER try Chocolate Soda. That shit was terrible. Today we went to the OC, Orange County and stayed at the beach for a few hours, ended up a little burned. Also went to the Santa Ana Zoo (from Old Dogs, Buffy the Vampire Slayer) and Jack In The Box (fast food place), and had a pretty cheap, relaxing day.
Day Seven:
Today was the 4th of July, which doesn't particularly mean muchto me, but there were parties and fireworks everywhere which was cool. We went to the cinemas at The Grove and saw Get Him To The Greek, which was great and amazingly hilarious.
Day Eight:
Today we packed up and left Hollywood to the next stage on our journey, Venice Beach. We checked in and went for a nice walk along the Venice Boardwalks to Santa Monica Pier, having a great look around.
Day Nine:
Today we had a huge day, in my opinion the best yet. We went to Knott's Berry Farm, a massive rollercoaster theme park and went on the craziest rollercoasters ive ever been on. Also had an all-you-can-eat meal of ribs, burgers, drinks, ice creams, chicken, etc for only $5. We topped off the evening by going to see Juke Kartel, one of our favourite bands. I had to sneak in, as it was 21+, but that was easy enough. Met them all after the show, again. Was great seeing them for a 4th time, in two countries, and the first time i've seen them play acoustically. We were told they got the opening spot for Slash/Myles Kennedy's Australian tour.
more pics added soon.
