I was about to post this thing on WF, but as it's down for backing up purposes at the moment I'll put it here too as I'd like your thoughts anyway.
Basically put, I'm looking to set up a business here in the UK and have struck upon a possible idea to gain funding from the people of the world. The question is, do you think people would donate between 50 cents and $1 if they had the chance to be part of something big? The business will be an American Sports bar, by the way.
If everything goes to plan, I envision this thing becoming a publicity stunt which will gain a bit of a media interest. So what's in it for the people who donate $1? Much like current sports teams that are owned by the people, or businesses which sell small shares to fans, they get to own a small part of a business. I know it's not going to make a return for them personally, but for the sake of $1 they can say they legitimately have a part in it.
And the main attraction is somewhat interesting and fun. Whichever US state or world city donates the most amount, that is what I will legally change my name to. And I'm being deadly serious. That's what will make it interesting to the media (as well as the business owned by the people of the world angle.) So if California donates the most, my name becomes California McNally. Same goes for Wisconsin, Toronto, Copenhagen, etc.You get the idea with that.
So to summarise, I've identified target pools in excess of tens of millions of people. Do you think the good people of the world (even if it's just a small percentage of the total who see it) would be kind enough to donate a very small amount?
