Who were your favorites as a kid, and who are your favorites now?
I grew up as a huge WCW fan, I watched every episode of Nitro, Thunder, Saturday Night, anytime it was on, I was watching. Even in it's final days, I was still a huge fan. I was a WWF too fan but something about WCW drew me in to watch them every week instead of WWF. As a kid, this is who I liked..
#1. Sting
Sting was my Hulk Hogan as a kid. He was my hero, and I was one of his biggest fans in the world. I had so much Sting merchandise as a kid, shirts, actions figures, posters, the plastic sting mask, I even made custom sting gear out of stuff I had around the house. He was the man in my eyes.
#2. Bill Goldberg
I remember watching this one episode of Nitro in 1997 and saw this guy they called Bill Goldberg and he just destroyed Hugh Morris and I was instantly a fan. Here was with this big, bad ass ex football player from Atlanta, Georgia. He mowed through every opponent he faced and if you weren't a Goldberg fan in 1997, and through 1998, and into 1999, then you just were not a wrestling fan.
#3. Diamond Dallas Page
Before Randy Orton was hitting the RKO out of any possible position, there was DDP nailing the Diamond Cutter from any spot imaginable. Whether it be the top rope, out of a chokeslam, out of a torture rack, or just simply right in your face...DDP was awesome in my eyes. He had that look to him that just made you like him. He would sometimes come to the ring wearing blue jeans and a t-shirt to battle the evil New World Order alongside the rest of WCW.
#4. Stone Cold Steve Austin
Even being a huge WCW fan, I still followed the WWF and one guy in general, that man, was Steve Austin. Everyone was an Austin fan. Austin was just that guy who did what he wanted and if you got in his way, he would stomp a mud hole in your ass and walk it dry. Austin was pure attitude and who doesn't love that?
#5. D-Generation X 1997
DX was amazing. I was a kid, of course I loved them. Getting away with watching DX as a kid was a thrill considering I wasn't allowed to watch the WWF because of them being so vulgar. I felt accomplished when I got away with watching DX do their thing.
Now in 2011, my taste in professional wrestling has changed. I've learned a lot about the inner workings of the business, even having worked for local independent promotions. I've grown to be more of a fan of the more talented wrestlers as opposed to "superstars" but still have a soft spot for the guys I grew up watching such as Sting and Goldberg. My current favorites right now are, and I can't even put them in order because I like them all equally enough, they are..
Edge
Chris Jericho
CM Punk
John Cena
Samoa Joe
AJ Styles
Bryan Danielson
Kurt Angle
I get a lot of flack for being a John Cena fan considering people say how can I like the list I do and still be a Cena fan
